Expertise

Expertise

The things I've actually done, and can help with if you need a hand.

Nutritional epigenetics & developmental programming

Does a heifer's rate of gain in early pregnancy matter for her fetus? What about one-carbon metabolites like vitamins and minerals? That was my PhD.

Multi-omics analysis

I work with RNA-seq (mRNA, lncRNA, miRNA) and DNA methylation data. The fun part is building networks that tie a non-coding RNA to the genes it seems to control.

GWAS & quantitative genetics

GWAS for reproductive, growth and carcass traits in heifers. Before that, finding SNPs in buffalo from resequencing data.

Biostatistics

Mixed models mostly. For traits that move together I've used factor analysis and Bayesian network learning. I also hold the NDSU graduate certificate in Big Data Applied Statistical Analysis.

Livestock growth biology

How fetal muscle, liver and gut develop in ruminants, and what mitochondria are doing along the way.

Veterinary medicine & livestock policy

I'm a DVM, so I still think like a veterinarian. These days that feeds into policy and training work for Pakistan's livestock sector.
